Oberammergau, Germany is known for its world famous Passion Play performed once a decade.  If you miss the Passion Play in 2010, you'll have to wait until 2020 to see the Passion Play again. 

Until 1634, Oberammergau, a quaint village, remained untouched by the Black Death that decimated Europe's population.  As a result of a homesick villager returning to Oberammergau unknowingly suffering with the dreaded plague, approximately 100 villagers died. Oberammergau's frightened survivors vowed if God saved them from the Black Death, once every 10 years they would reenact the agony and crucifixion of Christ.  

Oberammergau's villagers were saved from further deaths from the Black Plague.  Oberammergau's villagers have fulfilled their pledge every 10 years since then.
